Once the two-month build was underway, for example, moving ancient pipework provoked a huge leak. ‘We had to carry everything on foot to the property!’ In addition, building and safety regulations limited how Olga could reconfigure the space, and the age of the property – it’s about 150 years old – also threw up issues. ![]() For instance, if the diffuser neck size is 150mm (6), the flexible duct size is also 150mm (6) and therefore, the duct height needs to be 200mm (8) in order to fit the flexible duct. ‘There was no road access to it and never anywhere to park nearby,’ laughs Olga. Basically, you need the duct to be tall enough to open a duct collar for a flexible duct connection. The flat sits on the top floor of a block, situated in a quiet courtyard in central London. It was such an exciting, challenging project.’Įxciting it may have been, straightforward it was not. ‘Not only was it tiny, it had not been touched in more than 30 years and was a real wreck,’ says Olga of the fourth floor apartment. Olga Alexeeva, of interior design firm Black & Milk Residential, likes a challenge, and when she was asked by a firm of developers to modernise a small studio flat in central London, that’s exactly what she got. ![]()
